Florent Ghisolfi says a conversation reframed his view of Sunderland’s long-term potential and the need to push beyond self-imposed limits.
According to Sunderland Echo, he believes the club’s history should stop people inside Sunderland setting artificial ceilings, and that ambition must be matched by discipline. The Frenchman joined after turning down interest from Newcastle United, Juventus, Fiorentina and Neom.
He reflected that he, Tom Burwell and others could be the ones to impose limits, recalling a Lens discussion where finishing seventh might have felt sufficient. He warned there can be no complacency, arguing they must stay ambitious and alert because, in his view, the Premier League punishes weaknesses.
Ghisolfi highlighted the scale of competition by pointing to Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Nottingham Forest as benchmarks Sunderland must measure up against.
His message was measured but firm, that Sunderland can aim high only if every area of the club keeps improving.
