Real Madrid confirmed on Tuesday that they had lodged a 150 million euros bid for Julián Álvarez, which Atlético de Madrid rejected.
At around 18:00, Florentino Pérez phoned Atlético president Enrique Cerezo to table the offer, according to Radio Marca. Cerezo is said to have replied that Álvarez has a valid contract, will see it out at Atlético, and that the club would not negotiate.
Atlético have no intention of selling this summer, particularly to Real Madrid or Barcelona. The only route out, the report added, is payment of the striker’s 500 million euros release clause. It also said the club are more irritated by Barcelona’s conduct than Madrid’s, as Pérez made formal contact while Barcelona have not submitted an offer.
The club then mocked Madrid’s move on social media, first posting laughing emojis alongside the Madrid statement.
Minutes later, their account published two further messages, ridiculing their city rivals and accusing them of poaching players from Atlético’s academy.
