Real Madrid will host their first presidential election in 20 years this weekend, but that has not had much of an effect when it comes to transfer business being done behind the scenes. Florentino Perez, who has held the position since 2009, has had his people working on various issues over the last couple of weeks, and there has been a lot of good progress made.
A deal to bring back Nico Paz from Como was done some time ago, but in the last few days, Real Madrid moved to close two more signings. Ibrahima Konate will arrive as a free agent to reinforce the centre-back position in the wake of David Alaba’s exit, while Denzel Dumfries will also jet in to replace departing captain Dani Carvajal.
While this has been going on, there has been little clarity regarding the managerial situation. Jose Mourinho agreed a deal to return last month, but the ongoing election had meant that nothing had been confirmed – until now. With days to go until Real Madrid members go to the polls, Perez has unveiled the Portuguese in a post on X.
Pictured in the Real Madrid shirt from the 2025-26 season, Mourinho appears. It’s the first time that any sort of confirmation has come regarding his return to the Bernabeu, with both he and Perez having been very tight-lipped on the matter when asked by the media over the last few weeks.

It is unclear whether Mourinho would be wanted by Enrique Riquelme were he to win this weekend’s election, but currently, Perez is the overwhelming favourite to remain at the helm. Should he take the spoils in the upcoming vote, moves would be made quickly to finalise the managerial situation, as well as the aforementioned expected arrivals of Konate and Dumfries.
