Real Madrid will continue with Florentino Perez as its president, after he defeated Enrique Riquelme in Sunday’s election. The 79-year-old’s victory means he will remain at the helm until 2030, which would mean he would have held the top position at the Bernabeu for 27 of the last 30 years, when that time comes around.
Perez gave his victory speech in the minutes after news broke that he had won. As per Diario AS, he confirmed that his candidacy was the second-most successful in Real Madrid history.
“It’s a very happy day for Real Madrid. Thank you very much for your support because without the members who voted for us it would not have been possible to win these elections. We have won at all the polling stations. We have achieved the second best result in the history of Real Madrid’s elections. And the results could have been better because they have challenged our votes. We did not want to appeal. We have set an example of transparency and democracy.”
Perez also made it clear that the big objective for his new tenure as Real Madrid president is to return the Champions League to the Bernabeu for the first time since 2024.
“I want to continue building a club that continues to be a leader in all the rankings in the world. All this to continue winning until they reach the sixteenth European Cup. I am going to do everything possible to reach the concerns of the members who have not voted for me.”

Perez made reference to the fact that his victory means Jose Mourinho’s return as manager can now be confirmed.
“We are very proud to have the best players in the world and that one of the best coaches in the world, Don José Mourinho, is back. Real Madrid has been, is and will continue to belong to its members.”
