Florentino Pérez has opened his campaign with a banner opposite the Santiago Bernabéu, as Enrique Riquelme’s candidacy and guarantee are still awaited.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the display in Plaza de los Sagrados Corazones shows the president beside the motto “Mucha historia por hacer” and lists Champions triumph cities: Glasgow, Lisbon, Milan, Cardiff, Kiev, Paris and London.

It stands where Joan Laporta once placed his own banner in Madrid. Pérez acted even before the Real Madrid presidential campaign officially opens.

Riquelme is expected to formalise his bid and submit the guarantee, something his camp had indicated would happen on Saturday morning.

Before that, the club’s Electoral Board confirmed the validity of Pérez’s candidacy after checking the documents and his compliance with the statutes. The board met on Friday, chaired by José Manuel de Carlos Grau, with secretary Juan Raúl Castellanos Tarragó and members Lorenzo Álvarez Martín, Alfredo Revuelta de la Puente and Luis Alejandro Huerta Calvo.
