Liverpool were rampant during the club’s 4-0 win over Galatasaray on Wednesday night, as the Reds roared into the Champions League quarter-finals.
Trailing from the first leg, Arne Slot’s side thrashed the Turkish champions at Anfield to ease into the last eight.
Their four-goal performance could have been much more had it not been for the performance of Galatasaray goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır, who made 11 saves, including a stop from Mohamed Salah’s penalty.
Liverpool created a whopping xG of 5.60 against Galatasaray, who mustered only 0.21 in a meek Merseyside performance.
Key to the home side’s chance creation was Florian Wirtz. The German has had critics this season, but showed how influential he can be in midweek.
Wirtz created eight chances at Anfield, the most by a Liverpool player in a Champions League match since Opta records began in 2003-04. That included the assist for Mohamed Salah’s goal, with a neat back-heel into the Egyptian’s path.
Across that time, only former Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has created more chances in a single Champions League game for an English club.
