Floyd Samba makes history with brace on City debut | OneFootball

Floyd Samba became the youngest Manchester City player this century to score a brace after netting twice on his senior debut in Thursday’s 5-0 Carabao Cup win over Norwich.

The 17-year-old headed the opener just before the half-hour and later collected the ball in the top left corner of the penalty area before whipping a low right-footed shot past former City academy goalkeeper Darren Grimshaw.

He also had a hand in Rayan Cherki’s goal during a lively display as the much-changed holders eased past the weakened Championship side and into the fourth round.

Samba’s record surpasses Phil Foden (v Newport County, FA Cup 2018/19) and Brahim Diaz (v Fulham, League Cup 2018/19).

Handed his debut up front by Enzo Maresca in place of the rested Erling Haaland, the academy graduate since the age of eight called the night “mind-blowing.”

Son of former Blackburn defender Christopher Samba and brother of fellow City prospect Tyrone, he has been capped at youth level by England, France and Germany but is yet to choose his international allegiance.
