Southampton picked up a pretty impressive point on the road last week. Goal-scorer Flynn Downes has reflected on the match and made a great claim.
Well, Mateus Fernandes said that points needed to be added to the board and Southampton provided that. Some Premier League teams might be indifferent to a draw, others are not pleased by a draw. However, when battling relegation, one point is always better than none.
Southampton went a goal down at the Amex Stadium on Friday evening, but summer signing Flynn Downes scored his first Southampton goal in the second half, to draw the game level. Ultimately, the points were shared, with Southampton benefitting the most.
Speaking after the match, Flynn Downes made a great claim which Southampton fans will love.
According to the Daily Echo, goal-scorer Flynn Downes believes that the result against Brighton could be the turning point of Southampton's season. He said that while form hasn't been great, he is hopeful that the Saints can now turn it around.
In his own words, Downes said: "It was unreal (to score the equaliser). What a feeling to do it in front of the fans, who have been so good this year. We know our form hasn't been great. Hopefully, this is a turning point in our season."
Without a doubt, the fans will hope that Flynn Downes' prediction is right. After all, Southampton need to put points on the board, and the terrific result against Brighton could be the catalyst to get this going.
Russell Martin will feel relieved that the equaliser was scored. Not least by a player he signed in the summer transfer window.
Let's not forget that the result saw Brighton climb up to third in the Premier League table. While their position has changed since other fixtures were played, this only goes to show the great form the Seagulls are in. Therefore, it is a great result for Southampton.
Next up, the Saints face Chelsea. The Blues are another team in inspired form. So, let's sit back and hope that Downes' feeling is right.
