FM 26 Wonderkids: Best XIs For Every Budget | OneFootball

One of the most enjoyable aspects of the Football Manager series is discovering a talented young player before other clubs.

Searching for hidden gems has traditionally been a primary key to success in the game, and the same ethos undoubtedly applies to FM26.

Regardless of where you start your managerial career, identifying wonderkids and moulding them into future superstars is hugely rewarding.

To help you along the way, we have scoured the FM26 database to identify some of the best wonderkids you could sign when you start a new save.

We have created three teams, each with a 4-2-3-1 formation. In each case, the players we have chosen must be 21 or younger at the start of the game.

For Team ‘A’, we have set a maximum transfer fee of £1 million per player. Team ‘B’ has a £5m per player limit, while Team ‘C’ has been selected on a ‘money no object’ basis.

Team ‘A’

South Africa is a market worth exploring for wonderkids, particularly for managers who are working with a tight transfer budget.

Our biggest outlay is the £1m fee for Alexander Smith from Rangers. The 17-year-old has already been linked with several English clubs and could be a future star.

Team ‘B’

Players from Italy, Spain and South America feature heavily in our mid-range team.

Gilberto Mora is a prime target in FM26 and represents excellent value at around £4m.

Team ‘C’

Piecing this team together in FM26 is the impossible dream, given the fees involved.

However, Urbig and Wharton stand out as the players who offer value for money, despite the lofty asking prices.

FM26 – Must-Buy Wonderkids

Jonas Urbig – Bayern Munich

Urbig has been touted as the future number one at Bayern Munich, so prising him away from the club will not be easy.

However, if you can afford the fee and offer immediate first-team football, you will have a goalkeeper you can rely on for the next 15 years.

Saba Kharebashvili – Dinamo Tbilisi

Signing Kharebashvili in FM26 is a no-brainer. He’s cheap and can be developed into a player you can sell for a massive profit further down the line.

Tbilisi may drive a hard bargain, depending on which club makes a bid, but a fee of £133,000 plus add-ons has been enough to secure a deal.

Ayyoub Bouaddi – Lille

Bouaddi is probably the best centre-midfield prospect in the game, but you may need to break the bank to persuade Lille to sell him.

He develops into a world-beater in the middle of the park and should be high on the list of targets if you are managing a big club.

Adam Wharton – Crystal Palace

Top clubs missed a trick when they allowed Crystal Palace to sign Wharton from Blackburn Rovers for £18 million in 2024.

Wharton’s ability to pick out progressive passes sets him apart from other midfielders, and he is another ‘must-buy’ wonderkid in FM26.

Bailey Rice – Rangers

Rice has made no secret of his desire to play first-team football, which makes him an intriguing prospect for clubs in the English Championship.

His composure, passing range and defensive abilities make him an ideal fit for teams which employ a double pivot in the centre of the park.

Gilberto Mora – Club Tijuana

A £4m bid could be enough to sign Mora from Club Tijuana, although he has cost almost double that figure in some FM26 saves.

Regardless of the final figure, the teenager has the potential to be a superstar with the proper coaching. He is well worth the outlay.

Santiago Castro – Bologna

Much like real-life football, elite-level strikers are a little thin on the ground in FM26, with most of the best attacking prospects playing a little deeper.

Santiago Castro has impressed since joining Bologna in January 2024 and has the potential to become one of the top strikers in the game.
