Clinical in the penalty area, the American international, who scored four goals, was named Monaco's MVP of the month of February by Bang & Olufsen by the Club's supporters.
Four goals in the last four matches. Having scored a brace in the first leg of the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain at the Stade Louis-II as well as scoring in the win in Lens (2-3) and at home against Angers (2-0), Folarin Balogun has been the spearhead of Monaco’s attack in recent weeks. His consistent performances capped off a month in which the American was voted MVP by AS Monaco fans.
After a big mach in the Derby against Nice(0-0) and then Nantes in the league (3-1), it was in the Champions League that Monaco’s number 9 will truly shine. Balo wasted no time in the first leg of the Champions League playoff against PSG in the Principality, opening the scoring in the 55th second with a powerful header (1-0)! This also marked AS Monaco’s earliest goal in a major European competition, as noted by Opta.
And he would do it again a few moments later, scoring a brace with a splendid assist from Maghnes Akliouche (2-0, 18′), before seeing the Parisians win with a numerical advantage (2-3). It was a top-flight performance nonetheless, one in which he would be voted match MVP.
It was a great performance that the striker would repeat four days later in the clash against Ligue 1 McDonald’s leaders Lens at the Bollaert-Delelis stadium. In a comeback scenario where the Rouge et Blanc were trailing by two goals, it was indeed the Monaco striker who sparked the comeback on the hour mark with a clean right-footed strike (2-1, 62′), igniting the players’ furious comeback, one in which they woudl eventually prevail at the end of a major collective effort (2-3).
And the month will end with a bang, both for the club from the Principality, who beat Angers at the Stade Louis-II (2-0), and for “Balogoal,” once again very prominent with 6 touches in the opposition’s penalty area (a match record) and scorer of the opening goal (1-0, 57′). Decisive for the 12th time this season in all competitions (6 goals in Ligue 1, 5 in the Champions League, 1 in the Coupe de France), Folarin is fully contributing to the Rouge et Blanc‘s impressive run in the league.
It is on this precious success that February comes to a close, a month in which the American was voted MVP by Bang & Olufsen by fans on the AS Monaco App. With 57% of the vote, he finished ahead of his captain, Denis Zakaria, and the winner in January who had 32 %. Daghe Balo’! 👏
