‘Following Assessment’ – Rangers Confirm Disastrous Injury News | OneFootball

Rangers have confirmed disastrous injury news for striker Youssef Chermiti after he was forced off in the weekend defeat to Hibernian.

Chermiti, who Rangers recently rejected a substantial bid for, picked up an injury in the Scottish Premiership encounter and had his leg in a brace post match.

Rangers have been scanning his injury to try to determine what it is and how long he would be out for and the news is not good for the club.

The Gers have confirmed that Chermiti has an ACL injury, which means a substantial spell on the sidelines for the striker.

Rangers said in a statement: “Following assessment, striker Youssef Chermiti suffered an ACL injury in Sunday’s match with Hibernian.

“Youssef will be out of action for a significant period of time.”

While there was no suggestion Rangers were preparing to sell the Portuguese striker, a summer sale is now firmly off the agenda.

With no timeframe on Chermiti’s return, he could well be looking at coming back towards the end of the season or even missing the season entirely.

The news will no doubt raise questions about whether Rangers now need to bring in another striker.

The Gers did bring in Lawrence Shankland earlier this summer, but the recent focus has been on wingers, with the arrival of Daisuke Yokota and the expected arrival of Couhaib Driouech.

With signing a right-back also on the agenda for Rangers, while Mohamed Diomande’s exit means one fewer body in midfield, the club will have to carefully consider how to spend the rest of their budget.

In Chermiti’s absence, Bojan Miovski will be looking to step up and nail down a spot in the side, while Ryan Naderi must live up to the big expectations put on him.

If Rangers judge that Chermiti might get back early next year, they could gamble on not signing a replacement.
