Fonseca says Lyon believe they can achieve something special this season

Olympique Lyonnais sense a route back to prominence, 14 years after their last major trophy, the 2012 Coupe de France.

“Everyone here believes we can make something special this season,” said Paulo Fonseca, speaking to The Athletic.

Lyon remain alive on three fronts. They are third in Ligue 1, are in the Coupe de France quarter-finals, and in the Europa League round of 16.

The squad blends established leaders with gifted youngsters, and the collective spirit has looked stronger than in recent years.

The task now for Fonseca and his players is to channel that optimism into a run that takes the Rhône club back towards the top.
