Football Video Support, FVS, was used for the first time in Ligue 3 on Friday, as Thionville triggered the challenge against Aubagne, leading to Bilel Tafni’s dismissal.

L'Équipe reports that, in the opening round of the new third professional tier, a Thionville player was racing through on goal when Tafni, the last defender, pulled him back. Head coach Julien François requested FVS to prompt a VAR review.

The review upheld the appeal and the Aubagne defender received a straight red in the fifth minute. Coaches may use the mechanism twice per match, keeping a challenge when correct and losing it when not.

It was then applied in Caen versus Valenciennes, where Fahd El Khoumisti’s disputed goal was awarded inside the opening quarter of an hour.

At the same time, during SC Bastia against Puy-en-Velay FC, the Bastia coach used his challenge to overturn Ismaïl Cissé’s second yellow, which would have left his side at 10 against 11.
