Footy Headlines – Celtic to honour Lisbon Lions with 60th anniversary crest

Celtic look set to honour the Lisbon Lions next season with 60th anniversary crest according to a report on Footy Headlines…

Last night Footy Headlines leaked the special crest that will, if the report is correct, be used by Celtic on all kits for the 2026-27 season. Footy Headlines have a decent enough track record at getting these sort of stories right and it would certainly be a massive missed opportunity for Celtic if they failed to recognise the 60th anniversary of Celtic’s greatest ever season and our greatest ever team.

Footy Headlines notes that ‘the logo has been created to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the club’s legendary 1967 European Cup victory’ and gives this summary on the special occasion that has inspired the club’s rumoured logo for next season and some insight into the design. They stated:

Special Logo: A special crest will be featured on Celtic kits for the 2026-27 season. Anniversary: The logo commemorates the 60th anniversary of Celtic’s 1967 European Cup victory. Design: The crest includes a four-leaf clover, the club’s name, the founding year ‘1888’, and the text ’60° ANIVERSÁRIO’ which is Portuguese for ’60th Anniversary’.

They add: ‘The special Celtic 26-27 crest is an ornate and classic design, fitting for such a momentous occasion. In a wonderful touch that pays tribute to the location of the final, the text around the crest reads ’60° ANIVERSÁRIO’ – which is Portuguese for ’60th Anniversa.

‘The logo features the traditional four-leaf clover, the club’s name, and the founding year ‘1888’, all rendered in a beautiful gold against a Celtic green background.’

So much has been written about the Lisbon Lions and it’s fair to say that the Celtic support now and into the future will celebrate the achievement every year but especially on the decade anniversary of the greatest day in Celtic’s history on 25 May 1967 in Lisbon.

Recently we lost both John Clark and John Fallon meaning we now only have three Lisbon Lions remaining, Bobby Lennox, Willie Wallace and Jim Craig. What Jock Stein, his staff and his players in 1967 was something extra-special for football not just for Celtic.

That day Celtic changed football for the better with an all out attacking brand of football that allowed so many other clubs to follow and reject the ultra-cautious defensive set-up that was the preferred tactical approach by many top European sides until the 1967 European Cup Final when Celtic conquered Europe and defeated Inter Milan in the heat of Lisbon.
