Upheaval at Las Llanas as Sestao River part company with head coach Aitor Calle and sporting director Carlos Pouso inside a fortnight, with assistant Aner Blanco placed in interim charge. The club have cycled through as many as five technical secretaries in the past five seasons.

According to as.com, the club plan to announce a new sporting director in the coming days and are in talks with Óscar Sampayo, now available after his stint at Arenas, whom he helped take up to Primera Federación with Ibai Gómez as coach.

The bench is also under review, with former Athletic midfielder Javi González among the candidates. He is out of work after leaving roles in the youth setups at Lezama and Alavés, and the club could wait until the start of next season, while Blanco could see out this campaign.

Sestao sit eighth in Group II of the Segunda Federación on 40 points, five behind Utebo in fifth on 45, with Tudelano fourth on 46. After Sidenor's sponsorship, there is heavy expectation and there remains a pathway into the promotion play-off places.

Pouso described it as a sad day as he bade farewell to a club he holds close, saying it was time to step aside. He thanked the president, board and supporters, as well as the squad and staff, and expressed belief that the team can still meet their objective.

Stabilising the structure and sustaining a late push for the play-offs now dominate the agenda.
