Liverpool’s troubles in the Premier League deepened as Nottingham Forest ran out 3-0 winners at Anfield, handing Arne Slot his sixth league defeat of the season.
Goals from Murillo, Nicolo Savona and Morgan Gibbs-White left the Reds reeling and lifted Forest out of the relegation zone.
The match started with Liverpool showing intent, pressing high and probing down the wings. Cody Gakpo carved out an early opening, driving into the box and teeing up Alexis Mac Allister, only for Elliot Anderson to block the shot on the line.
Milos Kerkez and Gakpo had further attempts, while Dominik Szoboszlai’s effort was blocked by Murillo, keeping Forest on their toes.
Yet Liverpool’s dominance counted for little. From a corner, Elliott Anderson’s delivery bypassed Virgil van Dijk, allowing Murillo to power the ball past Alisson and give the visitors the lead.
Shortly after, Igor Jesus had a second goal ruled out for handball shortly after, while Mac Allister’s header before half-time was smartly saved by Matz Sels.
The second half barely got underway and the visitors struck again. Neco Williams whipped in a cross that Savona met with a crisp finish, leaving the home side shell-shocked.
The Merseysiders struggled to respond, as they created little in attack, and Forest wrapped up the points in the 78th minute when Gibbs-White followed up Omari Hutchinson’s saved shot to score.
The result leaves Liverpool in 10th in the table, with six defeats in seven league games, highlighting cracks in a side that looked unstoppable last season. Meanwhile, Sean Dyche’s team move out of the relegation zone with their first back-to-back Premier League wins.
