Nottingham Forest’s pursuit of Napoli defender Mathias Olivera could hinge on their Premier League status this summer.
Sport Witness claims Forest are keen to sign the Uruguay international when the window reopens, continuing their efforts to land him. The report adds that Olivera remains open to a switch, but only if Forest stay in the top flight.
The 28-year-old was linked in January as Forest sought to reinforce at full-back and in-depth enquiries were understood to have been made. Napoli head coach Antonio Conte appeared unwilling to sanction an exit without a replacement, so Olivera stayed and Forest brought in Luca Netz from Borussia Monchengladbach on deadline day.
Defence is likely to be revisited at season’s end, with Olivera still on their radar as the summer window approaches.
Olivera has made 19 Serie A appearances this season, nine as a substitute. He joined Napoli from Getafe in 2022 and signed a new contract 12 months ago running to 2030. Comfortable at left-back and centre-back, he started Friday night’s 1-1 friendly draw with England at Wembley.
