With the EFL season finished and the Premier League nearing its conclusion, transfer talk is gathering pace across the Midlands.
Joao Gomes continues to be heavily linked with Atletico Madrid, with talks said to be progressing and a reported fee of around £39m under discussion. The situation is understood to have intensified over the weekend, with suggestions only minor details remain.
Wolves could also receive a windfall if former winger Chiquinho secures a move from Alverca to Sporting CP, as a sell-on clause is believed to have been included when he left Molineux.
Former Wolves boss Vitor Pereira, now at Nottingham Forest after steering them to safety and the Conference League last four, is reportedly targeting defender Ladislav Krejci and young prospect Mateus Mane. Krejci’s loan is set to become permanent after meeting an appearance trigger, while Mane’s breakthrough has prompted persistent speculation.
The Daily Record claims West Brom have had a seven-figure bid for Falkirk striker Barney Stewart rejected after multiple offers, with Albion weighing whether to return. Stewart is regarded as Scotland’s leading young forward, his 10 SPL goals in the second half of the season putting him on Steve Clarke’s radar ahead of the World Cup, and Celtic, Oxford United and Lincoln City are also monitoring him.
At Aston Villa, Unai Emery is keen to keep Youri Tielemans, viewing the midfielder as central to his plans, and is said to be ready to resist summer approaches. Tielemans arrived on a free and has been among Villa’s standout performers this season.
