According to ESPN, Jasper Cillessen will not feature between the sticks for NEC Nijmegen on Saturday. The former Ajax, Barcelona and Netherlands national team goalkeeper has lost his starting spot to 20-year-old Robin Roefs. NEC head coach Rogier Meijer is very satisfied with Roefs and has chosen the young goalkeeper to start in Saturday’s clash against Almere City.

Jasper Cillessen has missed NEC’s last two matches due to injury, but Rogier Meijer believes that the 34-year-old goalkeeper still needs time to get into the rhythm of training and matches. NEC have started the season by picking up eight points from their opening eight Eredivisie matches. They’re currently 10th in the table.

Saturday’s opponents, Almere City, sit four places below them in the table, having accumulated seven points from their opening eight games. The club promoted to the Eredivisie for the first time in their history last season, and have managed to win their last two games in a row, beating Waalwijk and FC Utrecht.

Robin Roefs has played in goal for NEC during their last three matches. The young shot stopper has conceded two goals and also made a big impression on his manager. Roefs has been rewarded with the No. 1 spot for the time being. Jasper Cillessen will have to wait for his next appearance.
