Former Atlético Madrid star agrees contract terms with Girona | OneFootball

A former member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid has this week agreed on the terms of a contract with another of the Spanish top-flight’s clubs.

That’s according to market insider Matteo Moretto, who points towards Axel Witsel as the player in question.

Veteran midfielder Witsel for his part spent the last three seasons plying his trade on the books of Diego Simeone’s Atlético.

With the Belgian now 36 years of age, though, the Rojiblancos recently made the call not to offer Witsel an extension to his expiring contract terms.

The 132-time capped Red Devils international, in turn, became available as a free agent.

As alluded to above, though, this status will not remain intact for long…

As per a report from the aforementioned Matteo Moretto, citing Belgian football expert Sacha Tavolieri, Witsel has agreed to join Girona on a deal through the summer of 2027.
