Former Barcelona star Rafinha Alcantara has spoken about Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez’s departure to PSG, saying that he understands both the club’s perspective and that of the youngster.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder, a product of La Masia, shocked the club with his request to leave for PSG in the ongoing transfer window.

Dro’s move to PSG was poorly received at Barcelona, given that the club fully trusted the abilities of the young midfielder and saw him as a key cog for the future.

However, the teenager’s desire for greater prominence right now and a call from the French champions brought an end to his time with the Blaugrana.

Rafinha’s view

Rafinha, himself a La Masia graduate, has now shared his thoughts on Dro’s decision to leave Barcelona for PSG.

In his view, it is understandable that the young Spanish talent chose to move to a club like PSG, especially with Luis Enrique’s presence on the bench at Parc des Princes.

“Luis Enrique calls you, promises you the world and of course…,” he said on DAZN (h/t SPORT).

“It’s understandable,” Rafinha added, talking about the player’s perspective and motivation in facing a new challenge.

The former PSG star also stated that he understood why the news did not go down well at Barcelona, particularly with head coach Hansi Flick, who had counted on Dro in his plans for the future.

“I also understand the coach’s pain, having trusted him. Losing him must be tough,” he said.

Prior to his departure, Dro had played four times in La Liga and made a solitary appearance in the UEFA Champions League, where he even registered an assist against Olympiacos.

Despite having a €6 million release clause in his contract, Dro’s sale was completed for around €8 million, thanks to the good relationship between Barça and PSG.
