The Manchester United board has taken concrete steps to recruit current Germany national team manager Julian Nagelsmann, aiming to appoint a permanent head coach for next season.
According to German daily Bild, the Red Devils' management has started preliminary talks with the 38-year-old German tactician, even though he is tied to the German Football Association with a contract running until 2028.
A former head coach at RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich, Nagelsmann was appointed national team manager in September 2023 at just 36 years old. He thus became the youngest manager of the Mannschaft since Otto Nerz, who took over at age 34 in 1926.
This move comes as Michael Carrick continues as United's interim manager. The former midfielder has recorded four wins in five matches, but a recent draw against West Ham United has reignited questions about his long-term future at the helm.
Currently sitting fourth in the Premier League with 45 points, Manchester United is eager to resolve the managerial situation swiftly to ensure stability and sporting continuity.
