Eerste Divisie side SC Cambuur have officially announced their ninth summer signing as they look shoot back up the Eredivisie. This time they’ve strengthened in midfielder by signing former Birmingham City and Millwall man Maikel Kieftenbeld. The 34-year-old has signed a one-year deal with the club, bringing years of experience to the second-tier side. A statement signing from Cambuur.
Kieftenbeld kicked off his career with Go Ahead Eagles, making his first senior appearance during the 2008/09 campaign. FC Groningen signed the Dutchman in 2010, and he went on to spend five seasons with the club before joining Birmingham City. Maikel Kieftenbeld experienced an incredible spell in the West Midlands, featuring 183 times over six seasons before moving to Millwall.
FC Emmen has been his home for the last two years, but after a couple of relatively underwhelming campaigns, he’s joined Cambuur. ‘Maikel is a player with proven qualities and a huge winner mentality,’ said technical director Lars Lambooij. ‘In addition, he has a wealth of experience, which he has gained both nationally and internationally. This allows him to be important inside and outside the lines. We are therefore happy that Maikel Kieftenbeld is wearing the yellow and blue of SC Cambuur next season.’
