Former Chelsea player Wayne Bridge believes a move to Atletico Madrid would suit Conor Gallagher well, with the midfielder’s future set to decided in the coming weeks.

The Blues have been busy in the transfer market and have already made six summer signings, with Portugal under-20 international Renato Veiga the latest arrival at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are still in the market for a striker and winger, but they are also looking to offload a number of players including the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Bridge believes Gallagher would fit in at Atletico

Gallagher’s future has been a topic of conversation for a number of months given he’s now into the final year of his deal, with talks over a new contract seemingly yet to take place.

The 24-year-old was part of the England squad which made the final of Euro 2024, and a decision on his future was always going to be taken after the tournament.

The England international had attracted interested from Aston Villa, but it appears unlikely they will move for him given they are closing in on the signing of Amadou Onana from Everton, whilst there’s also interest from Tottenham and Atletico.

Gallagher’s future is up in the air with less than a year left on his current deal.

Fabrizio Romano had reported that the La Liga outfit were the side showing the most interest, but a deal would be difficult because of the cost with Chelsea believed to want £40m-£50m.

Former Blue Bridge feels the Chelsea academy graduate would fit in well at Atletico because of his energy and hard work.

“Yes, definitely. Conor’s a player that works hard and he’s got such a great level of energy that he can just go, go, go,” he told Betfred.

“He stands out due to his energy and he’s always running around and doing what his manager asks of him. You could see that move working for Atlético Madrid, definitely.”

All options appear to still be on the table for Gallagher, with the possibility of him being offered a new deal not completely ruled out, and the midfielder has made it clear he wishes to continue at his boyhood club, whilst Chelsea will also be wary of the fact they won’t want to lose him on a free next summer.
