The 47-year-old had led the Kirkcaldy side since 2024, and they currently occupy sixth place in the Championship and only a point shy of the play-off positions. Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Queen’s Park at Lesser Hampden appears to have been the tipping point, leading Raith Rovers’ hierarchy to part ways with Robson after a year in charge.

Raith Rovers confirmed Robson’s exit on the club’s website, citing a string of disappointing results since the start of the season.

It read: “Raith Rovers Football Club can today announce that Barry Robson has been relieved of his duties as Manager. In addition, Assistant Manager Andy Kirk will leave his position with immediate effect. Our thanks go to both for their time and effort during their time with us.”

Robson’s 38 games at Raith Rovers marked his second full managerial role, coming after a year leading Aberdeen permanently, following an earlier successful interim tenure during the 2023/2024 season.

He began his professional playing career with Inverness and then moved to Dundee United in 2003, spending five years there before joining Celtic, where he famously scored with his first touch on his debut at Pittodrie against Aberdeen.

Robson would go on to create unforgettable memories at the Hoops, such as netting a crucial penalty against theRangers in 2008 and scoring a soaring header over Barcelona in the Champions League the next season.

He departed Celtic to link up with Tony Mowbray at Middlesbrough, then moved to Canada with Vancouver Whitecaps, before returning to Britain in 2013 to finish his playing career at Sheffield United and Aberdeen.

No doubt Robson will be back on BBC Scotland screens for Championship matches over the festive period but he will be looking to get back into management as soon as possible.
