The German enjoyed an impressive 18-month spell at Parkhead before Celtic sanctioned a lucrative £18million move to Serie A side Como in the summer of 2025.

However, Kuhn struggled to establish himself as a regular under Cesc Fabregas, starting just six league matches as Como secured a historic top-four finish and Champions League qualification.

After being deemed surplus to requirements this summer, the 26-year-old returned to his homeland last week by joining Borussia Monchengladbach on a season-long loan.

Kuhn made his Gladbach debut on Saturday, coming off the bench for the final 21 minutes of a dramatic 4-3 defeat to Bundesliga newcomers Elversberg.

However, his return to German football has already suffered a setback, with the former Celt tearing a muscle in his leg during the match.

The injury is expected to keep Kuhn out for up to six weeks.

Gladbach sporting director Rouven Schroder said via Daily Record: “This is extremely unfortunate for Nicolas and for us as well.

“Now the focus is on providing him with the best possible support during his rehabilitation and gradually reintegrating him into team training.”

The setback comes just days after Kuhn spoke of his excitement at returning to Germany and finally getting the opportunity to play in the Bundesliga, having previously represented Bayern Munich’s reserve side.

“By the end, it all got a bit hectic and things were moving quickly, but my talks with the club’s management all went well and I knew that I wanted to move to Borussia.”, he stated.

“It was a stressful day and I didn’t sleep much the night before, so I’m very happy that everything worked out and that I’m now here

“Borussia are an attractive club with ambition. I’m looking forward to getting to know the fans and the stadium.

“Playing in the Bundesliga was a big goal of mine and I’m happy that it will soon become a reality. It also feels a bit like coming back home.”
