Despite completing his £7 million transfer from Celtic to Swansea on transfer deadline day, Idah has showed no disruption in his performances in training for the Republic of Ireland ahead of their World Cup qualifying campaign kicking off this weekend according to the ex-Manchester United defender.

After just one and a half seasons at the Scottish champions, the striker’s anticipated dream move was short-lived. Interest from the English Championship club in the 24-year-old surfaced last week, with the transfer finalised on Monday.

Brendan Rodgers had maintained that Idah wouldn’t depart until a replacement was found. However, even though Kasper Dolberg chose to join Ajax, Swansea still got the deal they wanted.

Idah remains off on international duty, and assistant manager O’Shea acknowledges the Irishman has experienced an unusual few days. Nevertheless, he stresses that it has not impacted his commitment in training.

Speaking to Irish Mirror, O’Shea said: “From the training, no [he hasn’t been affected], but I think it was probably a little bit of a strange day or two for him in the sense when the transfer window came around.”

“But once his mind was made up and he was going to go to Swansea I think he’d come in and just knuckled down, and he knows, obviously, he’s trying to get in the team. He’s trying to get in the team for Saturday. So I think everyone knows that.”

“That’s the message we give to the squad, that when you come in, there are places up for grabs here. Yeah, we have a good idea of the starting-11, but there’s places up for grabs in the team.”

“You’ve got to show that application in training to give the manager some difficult decisions.”
