Former Manchester City chairman David Bernstein says the club should be expelled from the Premier League if they lose their appeal against a guilty verdict on 115 financial breaches.

"The sanctions cannot just be financial, so it's got to be way beyond that. And I say that as a supporter and a fan," he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"It is damming beyond belief. My immediate thoughts are, should the board continue? Should the people involved be suspended immediately?"

An independent commission found City had committed 115 breaches of financial regulations. Its findings suggested the club used artificial financial arrangements, including sham contracts with commercial partners, to disguise funding reportedly exceeding £830m.

City have expressed disappointment and surprise at the commission's opinion, maintain they are innocent and argue they hold irrefutable evidence supporting their case. They are appealing.
