Former Chelsea and West Ham United manager Graham Potter has publicly expressed an interest in becoming Sweden’s head coach.
Sweden announced on Tuesday that they have sacked Jon Dahl Tomasson following the 1-0 home loss to Kosovo.
The defeat means the Blue and White’s hopes of reaching the 2026 World Cup finals are all but over, with the team sitting bottom of their qualifying group with just one point from four matches.
Potter, who was dismissed by West Ham last month, is eager to succeed Tomasson as Sweden’s new manager.
He told Swedish media outlet Fotbollskanalen (per BBC Sport): “ I’m actually in Sweden right now, in my house in Sweden.
“I’m between jobs and just left the Premier League.
“I’m open to anything, really, where I feel I can help. The job as head coach of the Swedish national team is fantastic.
“I have feelings for Sweden. I love the country and I love Swedish football. I have a lot to be grateful for towards Swedish football.
“So yes, it would be a fantastic opportunity for me, obviously.”
Potter previously managed Swedish side Ostersunds from 2011 to 2018. He guided them from the country’s fourth tier to its top division and also helped them win the Swedish Cup in 2017.
Following a brief stint at Swansea City, Potter joined Brighton & Hove Albion in 2019, leading them to their highest ever top-flight finish (ninth) in 2021-22.
His impressive work at Brighton landed him a job at Chelsea in 2022. But he lasted only seven months in the role after a series of poor results.
Potter took over West Ham in January, and comfortably led them to Premier League safety with a 14th-placed finish.
But he was dismissed as head coach after a dismal start to the new campaign, with the Hammers losing four of their opening five top-flight games under him.
Potter is eager to return to management and has publicly expressed a desire to become Sweden’s head coach.
However, it remains to be seen whether he gets an offer following his failures at Chelsea and West Ham.
