Chelsea’s January moves have taken a while to get going, but at last it feels like things are in motion.
There are strong links to a new defender to come in and boost our back line, but there’s also a lot of fiddling around further forward to do.
Chelsea still have Raheem Sterling sitting on the books on a vast wage, and for a second year in a row it’s proved impossible to find anyone to buy him. Until now we’ve not been willing to countenance a loan deal, but given how desperate things have got, that looks like it might change.

Nicolo Schira’s Tweet about Raheem Sterling’s potential loan.
Nicolo Schira, who is well connected in Italy, says that Napoli will be offered Sterling on loan for the rest of the season, just to pay part of his wages.
So far Sterling has insisted on staying in London. But perhaps he could be tempted by a 6 month loan, knowing he at least gets to play football, and may even get a trophy if Antonio Conte’s side lift their level.
Chelsea will have to use one of their precious foreign loan slots to make that happen, but their intention to recall both David Datro Fofana and Kendry Paez from their respective loans would clear the way for that.
It looks like a defender will indeed be top of our list of signings for this month, after the sporting directors changed their mind over our need level. Ben Jacobs gives a good update on a number of options here.
Chelsea still have David Datro Fofana on their books, perhaps not for much longer. He’s apparently going to be recalled and sold off as we look to tidy up our operation this month.
