According to São Paulo, Oscar was taken to hospital, where he is “clinically stable” and remains under observation while undergoing further diagnostic tests. The club added that “new information will be released as soon as there is an update from the medical team” managing the situation.

The midfielder, who has not played since São Paulo’s victory over Corinthians in the Brazilian Championship on 19 July, faces an uncertain future. Hospitalised in the capital city of São Paulo, reports suggest that he may terminate his contract with the club following discharge and could announce his retirement from professional football.

Oscar enjoyed a distinguished career, including a memorable spell at Chelsea, before returning to Brazil to play for São Paulo
