Former Corinthians futsal player Alex Felipe dies aged 32 in Russia

Brazilian futsal is in mourning after Alex Felipe died on Tuesday aged 32, having fallen ill at Ukhta airport in Russia following a match for Norilsk Nickel.
The Russian Futsal Federation said he felt unwell hours after the Russian Cup tie between Norilsk Nickel and Ukhta. As the team prepared to fly to Moscow, he lost consciousness.
Medical staff treated him at the airport with a defibrillator, but they could not revive him. His death was confirmed at the scene.
Felipe came through Corinthians’ academy and had two spells with the senior team, in 2013-2014 and 2017-2018, winning the Liga Paulista in 2018. In Brazil he also represented Cascavel Futsal and Joinville.
Abroad he played for Inter Movistar in Spain and Sporting in Portugal, collecting major honours. He won Spain’s top division and the Copa del Rey in 2015, then two Taças de Portugal, a Supertaça and the UEFA Futsal Champions League in 2018/19.
He had been with Norilsk Nickel since 2020. He is survived by his wife and two children.
