It is being widely reported that former Dutch youth international Derrick Luckassen will switch his international allegiance to Ghana. Luckassen, who currently plays for Cypriot side Pafos FC, is set to be called up by Ghana’s head coach Otto Ado for the sides friendlies in March. This opens up a chance for the former PSV defender to earn a place in the squad for the World Cup. Despite missing out on qualification for the recent AFCON, Ghana will be one of the teams representing Africa at this years World Cup.
Luckassen, who is now 30, has had an interesting career. He has played in the Netherlands for PSV and AZ, across the border in Belgium with Anderlecht and in Türkiye. In 2022 he left PSV to join Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel, where he spent two seasons. In 2024 he left to join Pafos FC and helped them qualify for the Champions League for the first time in the clubs history. His recent form has clearly impressed Otto Ado as head coach of Ghana and now gives him a chance to prove himself during the sides friendlies against Austria and Germany. At the World Cup, Ghana will face England, Croatia and Panama.
