Former Everton midfielder Eleanor Dale has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Sunderland on a free transfer.

The Lady Black Cats announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Dale joins Sunderland upon the expiry of her contract at former club Everton. The midfielder spent the second half of last season with The Blue Girls. She made eight appearances for the club in all competitions. All of her outings for Brian Sørensen’s side came from the bench.

The 22-year-old is no stranger to playing football in the North East. Dale enjoyed spells with both Middlesbrough and Durham earlier in her career before moving to the United States to combine playing football with her studies.

After joining Sunderland, Dale said “I’m delighted to be at the Club. It’s a great Club with great ambition and I’m really looking forward to getting the season started. I’ve played with some of the girls on the team before so it’s nice coming into a club with familiar faces and being close to home.”

Dale becomes Sunderland’s second signing of the summer transfer window. The Lady Black Cats have also added Barclays Women’s Championship-winning goalkeeper Demi Lambourne to their squad so far this summer.
