Former Fenerbahçe board member Ertan Torunoğulları says the club had a framework in place to sign Mohamed Salah before the recent presidential election.

Salah is currently a leading free agent after leaving Liverpool at the end of 2025/26. According to Turkish-Football.com, senior figures had already opened talks with the 33-year-old and received encouraging signals.

Torunoğulları said the forward was open to continuing his career in Türkiye, discussions progressed smoothly, and common ground was reached on several key points, including the outline of his salary.

With Aziz Yıldırım back as president, he underlined that any move now rests with the new executive board. He believes Salah would accept a formal offer if dialogue is resumed.

He also offered to brief the current hierarchy and assist in closing a deal. Securing Salah on a free is viewed as central to strengthening the frontline for UEFA Champions League qualifying.

Despite strong interest from the Saudi Pro League, Salah has reportedly indicated a preference to remain in a highly competitive European environment.
