Former Flamengo target Claudinho ‘flees’ to Brazil as Al Sadd seek swift return

Former Flamengo target Claudinho left Qatar for Brazil without giving Al Sadd an explanation, startling club officials.

The club said in a statement that he had departed with his family due to personal circumstances, and that they were in contact to arrange his swift return to Doha.

Flamengo last pursued Claudinho in 2024. An agreement with Zenit was in place, but the Russian club later withdrew from the sale.

With that move collapsing, Flamengo signed ‘Charly’ Alcaraz for a club-record R$ 110.6 million. Short of minutes under Filipe Luís, he was loaned to Everton, who exercised their option to buy the Argentine.

Flamengo now focus on Botafogo on Saturday 14 in the sixth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Kick-off is 20:30, Brasília time, at Engenhão.
