Former Germany international Philipp Max retires at 32 | OneFootball

Philipp Max announced his retirement from professional football on Sunday at 32, citing fitness issues.

According to BuLi News, the three-time Germany international had been without a club since leaving Gamba Osaka in March after six weeks there without an appearance.

A left-back and set-piece specialist, he scored 16 goals in 180 Bundesliga appearances. He came through youth teams at FC Bayern and Schalke, making his name at Augsburg.

In 2020 he joined PSV for €10 million and spent three seasons in the Eredivisie. Eintracht Frankfurt then brought him and Mario Götze back to the Bundesliga, but his spell was unsuccessful.

Max played his final professional match in the 2024/25 season for Panathinaikos.

He was part of Germany’s squad that won silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
