Tomáš Rosický out of intensive care after cardiac scare, hands over Sparta sporting director duties during recovery.

Tomáš Rosický, the former Arsenal and Czech Republic midfielder, has been discharged from intensive care after suffering heart complications last week.

The 44-year-old, who had been working as sporting director at Sparta Prague, will step down temporarily from the role as he recovers.

The club revealed the situation only after Rosický’s condition stabilised and he was discharged. Few outside a close circle of family and colleagues had been aware of his hospitalisation.

In a personal statement, Rosický said: “As a player and sporting director, I’ve always given my all. I’ve pushed myself to the limit without hesitation. But this situation has shown me that I need to take better care of myself. Unfortunately, unhealthy habits, a lack of physical activity, and family predispositions brought me here.”

He added: “The good news is that a full recovery is expected… I will stay in touch with my colleagues, as we’ve always worked as a team.”

Tomas Sivok will serve as interim sporting director while Frantisek Cupr, Sparta’s vice president, oversees day-to-day operations.
