Former Gunner Miguel Azeez scored an excellent long-range goal to open his account for new club Morecambe FC on Saturday, earning them their first point since his arrival.

Three weeks ago, Miguel Azeez confirmed his return to England after signing for National League side Morecambe FC. The 22-year-old had spent the 2024/25 campaign in Greece with PAS Giannina, but he’s now back playing in the English football pyramid.

With Morecambe’s matches not stopping for the international break, the team have already played five games since then, and Azeez has played 90 minutes of the last four.

It hasn’t been the ideal start, with Morecambe losing in each of Azeez’s first three appearances. The team are understandably still getting used to playing together, with only five members of the current squad having been at the club for more than a month – due to the club’s previous ownership issues.

Yet Saturday brought the team’s first point since Azeez’s arrival, and the former Gunner played his part in earning it.

With the scores tied at 3-3 against Solihull Moors after 75 minutes, Azeez picked up the ball a good 30 yards out before firing a rocket into the top corner for 4-3 and his first Morecambe goal.

The lead didn’t last, with Jacob Wakeling equalising for Solihull Moors two minutes later. But the team at least managed to hold out for a draw.

“Step in the right direction today,” Azeez wrote on Instagram afterwards. “Very happy with my first goal for the club too, we keep going! Amazing support from our fans as always.”

Morecambe remain bottom of the National League table, but they’re level on points with the team above and have three games in hand thanks to previous postponements.

If they can get back to winning ways in their coming games they could easily climb the table very quickly.
