The BBC report that Aaron Ramsey has been replaced in the Wales squad for the October international break due to injury, with reports in Mexico suggesting he suffered discomfort during training on Thursday.

Ramsey was subsequently left out of Pumas UNAM’s game against Chivas on Sunday, and he’ll now sit out of the October internationals. Ruben Colwill is taking his place.

Former Arsenal midfielder Ramsey hasn’t played for Wales since September 2024, and a large part of that absence has been due to injury.

Multiple hamstring setbacks left Ramsey unavailable for most of the recent international breaks, though he was fit and available when he was excluded for the September break this year.

Yet suggestions of an international retirement were quickly put to bed as Ramsey was called up this month, only for injury to now force him to withdraw.

Before Sunday, Ramsey had played Pumas UNAM’s previous six matches consecutively, more than he’d managed at any point in the last 12 months. He even opened his goalscoring account with a late winner against Atlas.

That run of games had Wales fans hopeful that Ramsey could make an impact for them this month, with the country playing a friendly against England on Thursday, October 9th followed by a World Cup qualifier against Belgium on Monday, October 13th.

But the midfielder will now have to focus on his fitness and returning to the pitch with his club.
