Jack Wilshere has turned things around from his debut managerial defeat to win four in a row with Luton Town, and the team only seem to be getting better.

Jack Wilshere’s senior managerial career didn’t get off to an ideal start with an unfortunate defeat to Mansfield Town, but things have quickly improved in the three weeks since then.

Wilshere admitted he was “so happy” to get a first win in management with a hard-fought victory over Northampton Town on October 25th, and they followed that up with another win in the EFL Trophy against the Brighton u21s the next midweek.

Luton then came through an exciting FA Cup game against Forest Green Rovers with a 4-3 victory, but perhaps the most impressive result of the lot came in a League One game against Stockport on Saturday.

Stockport are League One’s current leaders, and they went into the weekend nine points and nine places clear of 10th-placed Luton Town.

But goals from Jake Richards, former Gunner Cohen Bramall, and Isaiah Jones gave Wilshere’s side a shock 3-0 away win.

Stockport were reduced to 10 men after a straight red card to Owen Dodgson, but that was at 3-0 with just nine minutes remaining, so it’s no excuse. It is worth mentioning that Luton had to save a penalty to maintain their clean sheet though.

“A game where we didn’t start great, but we spoke to the players before about having to suffer together,” Wilshere said. “I’m a believer that if you suffer together you get your rewards for it.”

“We defended our box outstandingly in those tough moments,” Wilshere added. “We remained calm. You know when you’re coming to top of the league that they’re top of the league for a reason.

“They’ve got a way of playing that is dangerous, and you have to try and solve those problems. I thought we did.

“At the other end, you have to be clinical, you have to be ruthless, and we were definitely that!”

The League One campaign is a long one, so one great result isn’t enough to make Luton promotion contenders. But it will certainly give the team a lot of belief, as will their cup wins over the last couple of weeks.
