Former Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe sentenced after pulling braid out of ex’s hair | OneFootball

Former Liverpool footballer Jordon Ibe has avoided jail after being sentenced for assaulting his ex-partner, an incident in which he pulled a braid from her hair. The 30-year-old appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Friday for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

According to BBC News, he received a 12-month community order with 80 hours of unpaid work and 27 days of rehabilitation activity, and was fined £764. He represented himself in court.

He was arrested at Luton Airport in January in relation to a December incident, then charged in February. In July he changed his plea to guilty.

The court heard he and then partner Amie Mayson argued in Lambeth, south London, after she demanded repayment of money she said he owed. When Mayson called him a "druggy", he grabbed her by the hair, pulling out a braid and leaving a bald patch.

Ibe told the court, "I made a serious mistake", adding, "I am genuinely remorseful".

Ibe has been without a club since leaving Bulgarian side Lokomotiv Sofia in June. He progressed through Charlton Athletic and Wycombe Wanderers, joining Liverpool in 2012 and making 58 first-team appearances, with loans at Birmingham City and Derby County. He signed for Bournemouth in 2016, left in 2020, then dropped into non-league with Ebbsfleet United in 2023 before a move to Bulgaria in 2025. Across stints on Merseyside and the south coast he made 119 Premier League appearances.
