Former Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim could replace Jose Mourinho at Benfica at the end of the season.
Mourinho returned to the Portuguese club earlier this season, but is expected to take the reins at Real Madrid this summer after Xabi Alonso parted ways with Los Blancos in January.
Real have reportedly agreed a two-year deal with ‘The Special One’, with the option for an additional year, and could announce his appointment after their final game of the season against Athletic Club on Sunday.
According to Sky Sports News, Benfica are “expected to target” either Amorim or Fulham manager Marco Silva as Mourinho’s successor.
Amorim has been out of work since leaving Man Utd in January. The 41-year-old was sacked after winning just 15 games during his 14-month tenure.
The former Sporting CP head coach was replaced by Michael Carrick, who has won 10 of his 15 games in charge to guide United back to the UEFA Champions League.
Silva has been heavily linked with the Benfica job in recent weeks amid uncertainty over his future at Fulham. His contract expires this summer and he has been of interest to a number of Premier League clubs, including Chelsea. The Blues announced on Sunday that Xabi Alonso will replace Liam Rosenior in the dugout next season after signing a four-year contract.
