Former Manchester United manager manager Erik ten Hag has landed on Borussia Dortmund’s radar, as per Fichajes.

After just over two years and four months at the helm at Old Trafford, Ten Hag was shown the exit door by INEOS earlier this week, as the United board were forced to pull the trigger on the Dutchman amid the side’s concerning form.

There were question marks on the ex-Ajax man’s future in Manchester during the summer as well, but an FA Cup win strengthened his case —underlining his ability to consistently win trophies — and ultimately led to his stay.

However, the Red Devils endured a frustrating start to the 2023/24 campaign, and the 2-1 defeat at West Ham United, which left the Mancunians 14th in the Premier League table, made the situation untenable.

United have since moved fast, having made significant progress in their bid to appoint Ruben Amorim as Ten Hag’s successor. Sporting CP have confirmed that the English side have expressed their interest in triggering the Portuguese tactician’s €10 million release clause.

Akin to United, Ten Hag might also move to newer pastures and land a new job without much ado, with a report suggesting Dortmund are interested in the Dutch coach.

According to Fichajes, Ten Hag’s career “might not be on hold for long” as the Bundesliga giants are exploring his profile with interest and are considering him as a “possible replacement” for Nuri Sahin.

The former Dortmund midfielder only replaced Edin Terzić this summer, but has come under fire for his side’s underwhelming start. BVB sit seventh in the German top-flight table after eight games.

The way they capitulated against Real Madrid in the Champions League despite leading by a two-goal margin at the break further mounted pressure on Sahin.

The Spanish outlet suggests that Ten Hag’s style “could be a good fit” for Dortmund, who are known for their attacking approach on the pitch with young talent at the centre of their plans.

The report adds that despite Sahin’s popularity among the fanbase, the idea of a manager of Ten Hag’s experience leading the side has “generated excitement.”

Accordingly, the ex-United gaffer’s name is “resonating strongly in Borussia Dortmund’s entourage” as a potential managerial candidate.
