TeamTalk reports Igor Tudor is expected to leave his interim role at Tottenham by mutual consent, with a former Newcastle United manager under consideration before next month’s visit to Sunderland.

Appointed after Thomas Frank’s departure last month, Tudor opened with a 4-1 home loss to Arsenal and is winless in five league games, the only point a 1-1 draw at Liverpool.

His sole victory came in Europe, a 3-2 home win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last 16, which could not overturn a 5-2 first-leg defeat. Spurs then lost 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest, leaving them one point and one place above the relegation zone.

The report said weeks of internal talks preceded the move, with an internal trigger tied to defeat by Forest. It added Tudor is ready to step aside following the death of his father, Mario.

A shortlist has been drawn up that includes Adi Hutter and Chris Hughton, both seen as viable interim options. Hughton made over 300 appearances for Spurs and spent many years on the club’s coaching staff.

He left in February 2008 to join Newcastle, later taking the manager’s job permanently after an interim spell, and is the last manager to lead Newcastle to a home Tyne-Wear derby win over Sunderland, in October 2010.

If Spurs proceed, the new interim’s first match would be at Sunderland on Sunday, April 12, with the Black Cats pushing for Europe and aiming to deepen Tottenham’s relegation fears.
