Former Nottingham Forest owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi was stabbed by masked intruders at his £10 million Mayfair home earlier this month after confronting two armed intruders.

A photo shared on social media shows the 57-year-old Kuwaiti with both hands bandaged. His injuries were assessed as neither life-threatening nor life-changing, and inquiries continue, the Metropolitan Police said.

He is believed to have been asleep when the intruders entered his bedroom. He sustained stab wounds to his hand and injuries to his neck, and the attackers escaped.

It is not yet clear whether anything was taken. Al-Hasawi is known to collect high-end timepieces.

Al-Hasawi bought Nottingham Forest from the estate of Nigel Doughty in 2012, then sold to Evangelos Marinakis in May 2017 after a spell that featured nine managers in five years.
