Former Rangers and Danish goalkeeper Jesper Christiansen and has told Kasper Schmeichel that becoming the new first-choice goalkeeper at Scottish Celtic is something he should be looking forward to.

Christiansen, who played for the old Ibrox club, was speaking to respected Danish outlet tipsbladet.dk.  He also praised the Celtic Park home crowd for the amazing atmosphere inside the stadium that the Celtic support is able to generate for home games.

And his admission that Celtic are the top dogs in Scottish football will have the deluded Ibrox hordes foaming at the mouth as they read about their former player describing Celtic “as a club which basically wins the championship every year and which plays in the Champions League every year.”

The Celtic Park home crowd are fantastic

“It’s the wildest audience he meets. I have stood inside that pitch and I could hardly talk to my teammate because of the noise that was in the stadium. He gets to a place with a home crowd which is absolutely fantastic.”

Scotland and Glasgow is a fantastic living experience

“I would probably have stayed up there for many more years if I had played a bit more, because life outside the pitch was fantastic. The Scottish mindset is very relaxed and the people are very helpful and want the best,” Christiansen said.

“They don’t care if you drive big cars as a footballer. If you take good care of your work, they will see the best in you, and it was a fantastic experience to be in Scotland and Glasgow.”

Schmeichel is showing ambition by joining a big club like Celtic

“If the change falls into place, it is fantastic for Kasper and for Danish football. It also shows that he still has ambitions and that he means it when he says that he is not ready to stop yet.”

“He comes to a club which basically wins the championship every year and which plays in the Champions League every year. They play to huge crowds every time. The league is of course less good, but at the same time he is in a big club that wins everything and that comes out and plays in the Champions League. It’s ambitious and it’s great to see that he doesn’t end up in Saudi Arabia like so many others his age.

“As long as he plays and does so at a high level, he is the first goalkeeper, but of course he has to deliver,” the former Rangers’ former goalkeeper said.

Kasper Schmeichel yesterday passed his medical and only has to put pen to paper on the agreed contract with Celtic before joining his new teammates in the Washington DC for the first leg of Celtic’s three match United States tour.
