Kylian Mbappé had a slow start to the 2024-25 La Liga season, but he’s hitting his stride heading into the international break, netting two goals in his recent match against Real Betis.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star seems to be finding his form and one ex-Real Madrid standout believes that the game against Betis will be the start of the Frenchman making history with the Spanish side.

In an interview with the Spanish outlet AS, Joselu shared why it was always going to take some time for the newest ‘Galactico’ at the Santiago Bernabeu to hit their stride.

“I don’t pay much attention to it, honestly,” Joselu said. “I know what Madrid is like and I know the qualities that Mbappé has, and for me there is no doubt. Mbappé is like a bottle of ketchup. At first you press it and it doesn’t come out, but then it all comes out at once.

“He has already scored two goals against Betis and he will continue to score. Mbappé will make history at Madrid, he and all those around him.”

While Joselu sees the brace as a positive and a sign that the 25-year-old will begin showing the form many are accustomed to seeing, former player Christophe Dugarry recently criticized Mbappé, noting that the Frenchman’s recent play in the last few months has been mediocre, whether it’s at the club or national team level.

“Mbappé, despite statistics and important goals, has been mediocre and insufficient in the game for a long, long time,” Dugarry said. “It has been several months now, whether with the French national team, Paris Saint-Germain, or currently at Real Madrid.

“He needs to improve as a forward; he’s making less and less of an impact and needs to question himself. He will need to progress. We also see Mbappé’s technical limitations.

“We know he’s not in the top 10 most technical players. And today, his limitations are evident when playing alongside a player like Vinícius Jr.”
