Speaking at a media appearance, former Real Madrid manager Juande Ramos has came out in defence of Carlo Ancelotti, who finds himself under intense pressure at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Italian tactician finds himself under scrutiny after the dodgy start to the 2024/25 season in which Real Madrid have struggled to live up to their potential.

After all, Los Blancos have been disappointing in the UEFA Champions League while they have spurned multiple chances to take the top spot in the La Liga table – most recently being held to a draw by Rayo Vallecano.

Pressure is mounting on Ancelotti as a result but Ramos has defended the Real Madrid boss, saying:

“I think Carlo knows as much about football or more than he did years ago when he was winning the European Cups.”

Continuing, he added: “What happens is that there are moments; football has these situations, a series of events such as injuries and bad results that have led to some very good results.

“But I think he is the coach who can give Real Madrid the most guarantees.”

Ramos refused to comment on whether the Merengues needed reinforcements in the January transfer window but did give his take on the La Liga title race involving Barcelona (38 points), Atletico Madrid (38 points) and Real Madrid (37 points).

“I think La Liga is very attractive and very exciting. It seems that Barcelona started off very strong, that it was going to be a walkover,” said Ramos.

“But the last few results have been a bit negative and that has allowed Real Madrid and Atletico to catch up. From now on it’s going to be very exciting because all three teams will be fighting for the title.”
