Nathan Redmond, the former Southampton FA Cup match-winner, is now battling to keep Blackburn Rovers out of trouble, even as Saints could be back at Wembley before the season is out.

According to Sainstmarching.com, a Championship play-off final appears the likelier route, while an FA Cup semi would depend on an upset against Arsenal on Saturday.

Redmond's signature Saints display came in the 2021 quarter-final at Bournemouth, where he set up Moussa Djenepo then struck twice after the break in a 3-0 win.

That result led to a Wembley semi against eventual winners Leicester, a defeat that blunted hopes of a first final since 1976. During his time at St Mary's he recorded 30 goals and 27 assists.

More than four years after his last Southampton appearance, the 32-year-old has returned to the Championship with Blackburn on a short-term deal agreed at the end of March. The move, given his Burnley past, has proved polarising.

His contract runs to the end of the season, and Blackburn hope he can quickly recapture his best form to help avoid League One. They are only four points above the relegation places.

Redmond arrives on a free after just eight appearances across the last two seasons with Burnley and Sheffield Wednesday, and he has 31 Championship goal contributions in his career. The club will hope for echoes of his Bournemouth performance.
